Animal Research Reports

Tomorrow our class goes to the Columbus Zoo for our grade level's field trip! The students have been pumped for a long while now. Some of that excitement has been recently built through a writing assignment. The students from our class were divided into groups of three. The groups were given options of animals that the Columbus Zoo would have. They had to agree on an animal that they wanted to research. Then, each group of three students were required to collaborate together to create an informational report. Our class was given direction and guidance to use two digital research resources (PebbleGo and San Diego Zoo Kids).

Each student was responsible for a section heading, topic sentence, and details for that section. They researched together, drafted their chosen section separately, collaborated on the final section, and hook sentence. I then chose to model how to publish this report with a digital media source called Animoto. Animoto is a site that has an interface that can be accessed using the web and/or mobile device. Animoto allows users to create slides with text, photos, or videos. The application then will turn the slides into an animated video with customized styles and music. Below are our finished results. We hope you enjoy!
