Veteran's Day Learning & Appreciation

On Verteran's Day, our class had a couple of great learning opportunities and moments. Most were generated from Mrs. Yollis's Classroom Blog. Mrs. Yollis is a third grade teacher in a suburb outside of Los Angeles, California. The night before Veteran's Day, her class posted some facts and information about veterans (in general), and even specific to family members of their students. Mrs. Yollis's class also provided us with a link to a BrainPOP video titled, "Armed Forces."

Our class watched the informative clip and then generated a a list of all the things that we learned. We also added how many of our students had family members or friends that were veterans and soldiers to our list. After our brainstorming session was completed, Mr. Hall posted to Mrs. Yollis's blog the information that had been learned. By mid-afternoon, Mrs. Yollis's class had replied and even inquired some more about our students and school. Our class was very intrigued and excited to see a reply. If you would like to see our class's comment and reply back CLICK HERE. Our comment is at the bottom of the post.

Before the day concluded, we had a guided reading piece on the topic of veteran's and we then concluded the day with collaborating on a veteran's thank you letter (below). It was nice to hear and see our young students appreciating our veterans and current soldiers.
