First Full Week

This week we reviewed many things and got to know one another even further. Each student shared their brown bag assignment throughout the week. The students were able to focus on listening and speaking skills. We also created shared sentences about each student. If we did not know the spelling of a word, the students began learning how to stretch out words (listening for the sounds within the word). If the word was a popcorn word from last year (bold words in our sentences), then we were able to spell those correctly from the Word Wall. The sentences we created are located below.

- Hailey likes the color pink.

- Alaina likes the color pink.

- Peyton went to Tennessee this summer

- Breanna went to her grandma's sandbox this summer.

- Eli went to Florida.

- Ila likes the color blue.

- Jaxon likes peanut butter foods.

- Daisy likes Poly Pocket dolls.

- Crew went to Legoland!

- Hazel played tee ball over the summer.

- Kiera does not like snow.

- Maven likes to collect sea shells.

- Conner's favorite color is white.

- Brookie likes cotton candy.

- Dylan went to the fair.

- Will does not like to get up early.

- Owen's favorite food is pizza.

- Nicholas likes to read.

In math, we practiced correct number formation when writing. We also practiced counting by playing the Everyday Math game called Penny Dice. Below is the song that we listened to while forming numbers correctly. We discovered that EVERY number's formation starts at the top!

For Working with Words, we studied the word family "at" and short vowel sound of "a". Below is our word family poster that we will refer to throughout the course of the year. This can be used to help read other words that have "at", or when spelling words with that family's sound.

In guided reading, the first couple of days we reviewed the basics of text and how to interact with it in a book. We tracked and completed a share read of Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. At the conclusion of the week we used some technology to complete a Chicka Chicka project. We used the iPad cart and a template from a blog (thatswhatshesaid.net) to add our names to coconut tree. I was able to AirDrop the template to the students' iPads and they were able to make it the background in the Doodle Buddy app. Once the background was set, students were able to use the drawing tools and colors to add their own names.
