Digital Citizens

February 9th is Safer Internet Day. This is an online intiative to help raise awareness of online safety. Both teachers and parents can help educate their children on how to do their part for a better internet. To start the week off, I included a center for students to rotate to during intervention time. This was an independent center where students watched the video What is the Internet.

This video is a perfect starter for prompting first graders into our internet saftey discussion(s). Students will then be providing feedback through writing or drawings throughout the course of the week. We will continue viewing and learning with other NetSafe videos from Planet Nutshell. Here are the ones to follow: What is Personal Information? , Tell an Adult, and Be Kind Online.

There are many other resources available as teaching points too! The link below will guide you to (below) to a collection I have made in Participate Learning. The world of technology continues to change at a rapid rate, and it is more important now than ever that we have these important discussions with our students as they play and learn online.
